I will echo that with the brand new BIIIX I picked up this weekend. BTW the workmanship on the WT is second to no other rod I've ever seen, so I will take the comments about Winston quality going down the drain with a large grain of salt. This is still a tough choice, keeping both is not an option. Seeing as this rod will be a specialty tool for hatches and spinnerfalls, I think the IM6 will be more delicate, but the WT may be more accurate due to faster damping of the blank. It transmits the exact moment of rod loading on the backcast directly to my hand. Both rods cast great and are very smooth, but the IM6 has little more "special sauce" on it.

A quick wiggle of the rod shows the IM6 flexing farther down the blank and the distance the tip traveled was noticeably larger. The WT is definitely faster than the IM6. The wind was blowing pretty hard and neither of these are particularly good in the wind, but I was able to cast enough to get an idea. I had the opportunity to cast both rods today. Personally, I'd be inclined to hang on to both of them especially if you received the WT for a good price. Sweetandsalt will hopefully see this post and can add some enlightenment to the discussion. I don't believe the more modern incantations of the WT are the same as the older ones, so IF you got a replacement, it may not necessarily be the same WT. Many Winston aficionados feel that the finest rods Winston ever produced were from the Bracket Era. Once you are armed with this information, start researching thoughts of folks on the specific rods and eras of production. Report back here once you have that information.
WINSTON IM6 FLY ROD REVIEW SERIAL
I would contact Winston once you receive the incoming rod, provide them with the serial #'s for both and ask them to tell you when they were manufactured. That said, the IM6 goes back a ways in production and depending on when your WT was produced it may be of the same era. Ultimately a choice between keeping and fishing with one of those two rods should come down to which feels best when you are casting them.
